Follow Me Tours offer a Small Group Tagalong Tour for the owners of Caravans, Campers and Motorhomes.

Singles and Couples are invited to experience the great Australian Outback with us. International tourists with rental vehicles are also welcome. The majority of our tour participants are in the 60+ age group.

Our Tagalongs are different in that more people are able to participate by keeping the program simple. ie: You don’t need an expensive tow vehicle or off-road van to travel with us.

This Tour suits all levels of driving and towing competency, as we travel mainly on bitumen roads, with only a small section of normally good gravel road at the Birdsville end of the trip.

Our Tour departs from and returns to DUBBO NSW. We travel approximately 5600 klms over 31 days visiting 40+ Towns and Villages in Outback NSW and QLD. Average daily travel is around 250 klms and the longest day is 480 klms.

We travel to Birdsville QLD, one of the most remote towns on earth and return via a different route hence the name of our tour “To Birdsville and Back”.

You will enjoy the Company and Support of fellow members with the added Security of travelling within a group.

The Tour is Self-Catered and you will stay in the best available Caravan Park each night, guaranteeing you a hot shower and clean toilet facilities each stay.

The Tour has ten rest days included which allows for time to explore the local attractions.

This will be our seventh Birdsville trip so we have become familiar with what the various Towns and Parks have to offer.

A great time had, great friends made and great and long lasting memories assured.

Pets are welcome by arrangement.

The Route

All Tours depart from and return to DUBBO NSW.

We travel via:

Dubbo, Lightning Ridge*, St George, Roma*, Emerald, Charters Towers*, Hughenden, Julia Creek, Cloncurry, Mt Isa*, Boulia, Bedourie, BIRDSVILLE**, Boulia, Winton, Longreach*, Barcaldine, Blackall, Charleville, Cunnamulla, Bourke, Nyngan, Dubbo and all villages in between.

*denotes two night stays  –  **denotes five nights stay.

All bitumen apart from 60 klms of normally good gravel road between Bedourie and Birdsville.

On the Road with Follow Me Tours

We tour in a relaxed mode. We try to leave our caravan park by 8.30am each morning which allows us to be in the next park by mid-afternoon. On the couple of longer travelling days we will try to get away by 7.30am.

We travel in the same order of vehicles each day (it’s easy that way to know if anyone is missing) at around 85-90 klm per hour.

It would be great if your vehicle is equipped with a UHF radio as it provides communication between the group whilst travelling and is useful to alert for hazards eg: ”there’s a truck coming towards you”, “there’s livestock on the road ahead” or “we’ll be stopping for morning tea in 10 klms”.

Your vehicle/s must be Roadworthy and you should know its fuel consumption eg: in my case I know that I need fuel every 400 klms, so I carry a 20 litre of diesel with me. There are only three days where this may be an issue.

Your vehicles should also have solar, 12 volt or gas capacity in the event that power is not available at any stage of the trip along the way.

We make time for rest and toilet breaks and to have a look around the little towns and villages we pass through each day.

We boil our thermos each morning and have a relaxed morning tea together after about two hours of travel. We either buy or make our own lunch. In the arvo we will gather for a happy hour (drinks and nibbles) before retiring to organize our own evening meals. Some parks may offer an evening meal whilst other may have evening entertainment, bush poets, music etc.

On the six rest days of the trip we will have a long-table dinner, prepared and shared by all the group members. These rest days also offer a chance to catch up on shopping, laundry etc.

Our lead vehicle is equipped with a Satellite Phone, UHF Radio, First-Aid Kit and a Comprehensive Tool Box.
